1. Eating guide to Oslo's Majorstuen
Anyone with more than a passing moment in Norway will be fully aware of the expense this country demands. Recently Oslo was rated the most expensive city in the world in 2006, ending a 14 year reign by Tokyo, and according to the Canadian bank UBS, still holds that distinction. Welcome to Schuyler's eating on the cheap in Oslo, an ongoing series. Today, we look at a couple of places in Majorstuen, a major thoroughfare for all public transportation, shopping central, and a stone's throw away from Nationaltheatret.

4. Birkenbeinerrittet for foreigners
Standing in a warehouse in Økern, in eastern Oslo, raising my hand to increase my bid for a bike as a friend translated numbers for me so I could keep up with the action, I beat out a woman for this two-wheeled machine that sits in my room now, waiting for a few repairs.
