Norwegian cyclist Thor Hushovd is no longer competing in the upcoming Olympics in London, reports say.
According to TV2, the decision comes following the champion’s poorer-than-desired physical shape.
After a difficult race in Poland, Thor Hushovd told BMC journalists at the weekend that it would be difficult for him to travel to the London Olympics.
“I will travel to London but have to give myself a couple of days and talk with Olympic Committee and figure out what to do,” newspaper Fædrelandsvennen reported Hushovd as saying..
He added, “I came here to Poland after a long break from competition, and was happy to run the race again. But I found out after four stages that I am far from my level.”
Hushovd’s trainer, Atle Kvålsvol, said to TV2 he will be issuing a statement during the course of the afternoon, Monday.
