The Crown Prince pair is due to head for the US on May the 5. During the four-day official visit, TRH will attend this year’s Offshore Technology Conference (OTC2013) in Houston, Texas.

It is HRH’s stopping by F-35 manufacturer Lookheed Martin that has caused controversy back home.

Left Wing filmmaker Erling Borgen, who leads the criticism, claimed in his op-ed in Leftist newspaper Dagsavisen that the visit will help lend legitimacy to a US “industry of death.”

Lookheed Martin", Mr. Borgen claims, "produces cluster bombs, hellfire missiles, drones and nuclear weapons." He called upon HRH Crown Prince Haakon to read William Hartung's book "Prophets of War" about the company on the flight to the US.

The visit, which is set up by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is believed to be connected to the Norwegian purchase of the F-35 fighter aircraft.

There have been some questions made about this, in particular due to the delays in the program and fear of rising costs.

Crown Prince Haakon, as is the custom, has not commented to the accusations. Although there were a few academics who second Mr. Borgen's opinions, it is not generally believed that HRH will call off his visit to Lockheed Martin's Fort Worth factory.
