Nine of 68 patients admitted to Dikemark for psychiatric care have gone missing since 2002, an investigation by VG reveals.
Victim May Britt Grue was kidnapped, beaten, and threatened with a knife six years ago by a man who had gone missing while on leave from hospital, he is now in a privately run institution.
“Now I have lost all confidence that psychiatry is able to take care of one of the most dangerous and sickest criminals,” she told the paper.
Under Norwegian legislation, those who are deemed mentally ill at the time of committing their crimes are sentenced to compulsory psychiatric treatment.
Anders Behring Breivik could be admitted to a psychiatric facility like Dikemark if Oslo District Court upholds his present psychiatric diagnosis.
