Norway scientists plan simulated grid test failure. Experts are to attempt to prevent power cuts before next year’s increase in grid pressure from new renewable energy plants. SINTEF researchers in Trondheim and are looking for errors that can be fixed before these new power plants are built and want to crash test the network. Energy researcher Helge Seljeseth said to NRK, “We want to perform this type of direct test to determine exactly what is needed before the system fails.”

Energy researcher Helge Seljeseth said to NRK, “We want to perform this type of direct test to determine exactly what is needed before the system fails.”

New green certificates being introduced in 2012 are making it attractive for electricity companies to invest in small power plants that focus on water and wind to create energy.

However, this is likely to put more pressure on power grids as these new plants are expected to increase electricity output by 10% within the year 2020.
