Labour Youth (AUF) leader Eskil Pedersen has called for the government to raise numbers of refugees coming to Norway to 1,500.

“The government has tightened immigration policy so that the number of asylum seekers is reduced. Now there are few excuses not to increase the number of quota refugees,” he told TV2.

In doing so, he referred to the 2009-2013 Soria Moria Declaration. It states the government intends to increase the number of refugees when the number of asylum applications has reduced.

The UN High Commissioner of Refugee-administered scheme applies to refugees with a documented need for help.

“Raising the number of quota refugees is the best to help the weakest which have the greatest need for assistance,” concluded Eskil Pedersen.
