Erik Solheim, the Socialist Party’s (SV) Minister of the Environment and International Development, received the fresh report on Tuesday.
In reply to Asle Toje’s criticisms of it in an earlier article on The Foreigner, Solheim had this to say:
“The report clarifies on our achievements through international development aid and on what we are less likely to achieve. It concentrates on the fact that development aid saves lives. We have reason to be proud that millions of lives are saved because people are vaccinated, given food or get the education that lifts them out of poverty.
“I am glad that our development aid is being discussed. Asle Toje’s recent critic is too general and emphasizes too much the volume of development aid and number of recipient countries. He is not able to distinguish between development policy and development aid.”
