Drillo’s footballers had a perfect start yesterday after they scored in the second minute. An unmarked Jon Arne Riise made it 1-0 after Tom Høgli’s perfect pass via Erik Huseklepp.
Cyprus had its first chance to score in the 38th minute, when Michalis Konstantinou sent the ball above the net.
The visitors doubled their lead four minutes before the break, when John Carew scored after a pass from Morten Gamst Pedersen.
In the second half it was the hosts who dominated. Andreas Avraam had a chance to reduce to difference, but saved to corner.
Then a hesitation by Riise allowed Cyprus’ Ioannis Okkas to score in the 57th minute.
Jon Knudsen could have scored a third goal for Norway but Carew’s scissor kick was returned by keeper Antonis Georgallides.
Cyprus continued to harass the Norwegian defence and had two more chances to equalize or take the lead near the end of the match, but it was all over after 3 minutes overtime.
Norway’s next game will be in March against Denmark.
