The skier, who won four medals at the Olympics from Vancouver, started as a favourite and did not disappoint spectators, finishing the race in 1:14:10.4.
Norwegian Northug broke away from his competitors 200 meters before the finish line, avenging Thursday’s silver medal win against Sweden’s Marcus Hellner, who finished only sixth today.
In the day’s other competition, Norway’s ski jumping team finished second at Midtstubakken, represented by Anders Jacobsen (103.5m, 102.5m), Anders Bardal (105m, 101m), Bjørn Einar Romøren (101.5m, 100.5m) and Tom Hilde (102.5m in both rounds).
Gold went to Austria, winning with a total of 1025.5 points, 25.5 ahead of Norway.
