Petter Northug brushed his earlier disappointment off yesterday, winning his first Olympic gold medal in the Men’s Team Sprint Freestyle.

The triumphant team of Northug and Øystein Pettersen completed the race in 19:01:00 minutes, with Germany taking silver, and Russia finishing third.

Fifth place in the Women’s race went to Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen and Celine Brun-Lie, after the pair completed a convincing semi-final earlier in the week.

It was also a good day for Norway in the Ski Jumping finals. Anders Bardal, Tom Hilde, Anders Jacobsen, and Johan Remen Evensen took bronze with a total of 1030.3 points, defending the team’s medal won in Torino in 2006.

Jacobsen had the longest jump of the finals, soaring past his teammates to land a distance of 140.5 m in the second part of yesterday’s competition.
