Experienced plane travellers may think they have seen it all with comfortable Business Class seats, meals, comforts, flexibility, and films.

This unique competition, however, is almost guaranteed to boldly take the person selected where no regular passenger has been before.

KLM’s “Claim your place in Space” promotional campaign, launched on www.klm.com/space offers participants the chance to win a real piloted spaceflight-for-one aboard the SXC (Space Expedition Corporation) Lynx spaceship.

The prize also consists of flights for the winner and companion to Curacao, as well as a stay at one of the southern Caribbean island’s luxury hotels.

Participating in the soon-to-be-closing competition is easy, says KLM.

On 22 April, the airline will be launching a special high altitude balloon from the US’ Nevada desert.

Online participants predict pre-launch where they believe the balloon will reach its highest point. The most accurate prediction wins.

The balloon will be carrying on board cameras and a GPS to follow its exact progress. As it approaches space it expands, eventually popping, with its load floating back to earth on a parachute.

KLM says its promotional “Claim your place in Space” campaign showcases the airline’s pioneering spirit and highlights its entrepreneurial characteristics.

The venture also supports SXC in finding a way to make space accessible in a responsible, sustainable manner, promoting new technologies.

SXC is a revolutionary space project that aims to launch the first commercial space trip from Curacao as of 1 January 2014.
