Ship shape?

The volcanic cloud of ash that has closed Norwegian airspace on and off since before the weekend has caused a different type of eruption.

Passengers at Bergen’s Flesland airport are now so fed up with airspace closures, delays, cancelled flights, and misinformation, they’ve refused to leave until something is done.

Earlier today things boiled over for a party of 52 people who’ve been waiting since Monday to join a cruise.

“I’ve had enough now. I’m not leaving until we’ve arrived at our destination,” one angry lady in the group tells NRK.

What has made things worse is that the other half of the contingent is already on board the ship due to leave from France.

Trip could turn to ashes

And two and a half hours later, things looked as though they were working out fine. Arrangements have been made to transport them by bus to Oslo Gardermoen instead.

But there still could be one cloud on the horizon for the crew of 52, who sat eating meat cakes and drinking wine in the airport’s restaurant.

At the time of going to “press”, the latest update from Avinor still shows Flesland is closed, and things are still uncertain.

“What we’re afraid of is that they’ll put us on the bus and we’ll travel to Oslo, only to find out that Gardermoen is closed,” another one of the passengers says.
