Bureaucrats try to derail high-speed trains. Industry leader accuses paper-pushers of attempted sabotage. Despite broad political support for high-speed trains in Norway, it seems that not everyone is enthusiastic. Stein Lier-Hansen, director of the Federation of Norwegian Industries (Norsk Industri), is of the opinion that both the Norwegian National Rail Administration (Jernbaneverket) and bureaucrats at the Ministry of Transport and Communications (Samferdselsdepartmentet) are deliberately trying to switch the points. “For me, it appears as though they are fully consumed by attempts to invalidate all the good arguments as to why Norway should commit itself to fast trains” he tells NRK.Ignoring the reports

“For me, it appears as though they are fully consumed by attempts to invalidate all the good arguments as to why Norway should commit itself to fast trains” he tells NRK.

Ignoring the reports

“I feel that they have been unwilling to enter a constructive dialogue as to the pros and cons of the high-speed trains.”

He believes that Jernbaneverket is quite systematic in its efforts, especially when the reports do not concur with their opinion.

Instead, he advocates heeding the conclusions contained in Deutsche Bahn’s recent report, rather than listening to what Jernbaneverket has to say.

Jernbaneverket was not available for comment, according to NRK.
