Jørn Holme, head of the Police Security Service (PST) has recommended that the Foreign Office deport Mullah Krekar, considered to be a threat to national security by the Norwegian authorities.

Holme – soon to retire – tells NRK that the former leader of the Islamist armed group Ansar al-Islam is still just as dangerous as he was when the Supreme Court made their original ruling in 2007.

Although Krekar’s deportation order is still in effect, Norway’s Foreigner Minister Jonas Gahr Støre writes that Krekar cannot be returned to Iraq until the country issues guarantees that he will neither be tortured nor sentenced to death, as Norway is a signatory to the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).
