European Union condemns Norway attack. President Herman Van Rompuy of the European Council joins world leaders in deploring today’s bombing in Oslo. “I condemn in the strongest terms these acts of cowardice for which there is no justification,” says Van Rompuy, in a press release. The head of European diplomacy, Baroness Catherine Ashton, declares on the European Council’s site that an attack of this magnitude is not something one expects to see in Norway which is “famous for actively promoting peace in the world.”

“I condemn in the strongest terms these acts of cowardice for which there is no justification,” says Van Rompuy, in a press release.

The head of European diplomacy, Baroness Catherine Ashton, declares on the European Council’s site that an attack of this magnitude is not something one expects to see in Norway which is “famous for actively promoting peace in the world.”

“Norway has demonstrated its staunch support for the EU in many contexts and the EU is ready to support Norway in these difficult circumstances," says Baroness Ashton.

President of the European Comission, Jose Manuel Barrosso, also sent a message to the Prime Minister of Norway stressing that Norway is associated with “peace at home and peace-making abroad.”
