Ray, one of the EDL’s founder members, has been cited as a source of inspiration for the mass murderer.

Anders Breivik’s sent his manifesto to 250 British contacts and a message to the EDL prior to attacks, saying, “In these dark times all of Europe are looking to you in search of inspiration, courage and even hope that we might turn this evil trend with Islamisation all across our continent.”

“Well, just wanted to say keep up the good work, it’s good to see others that care about their country and heritage.”

The far right-wing extremist Ray denies involvement with the massacre, but Norwegian police have confirmed they are in contact with the 35-year-old.

“It is true that Paul Ray has been in contact with the Oslo police, and that he will be questioned in connection with the terror case, Wednesday,” said Oslo Police Communications Officer, Roar Hanssen to NTB.

It is still unclear whether Breivik acted alone. Police continued their investigations this week, collecting DNA material and fingerprints from his rented farm in Hedmark, where a second bomb primed for action was found by the army. Investigators are considering taking the perpetrator to the property for further questioning.

“We have a large amount of material to go through and are now faced with a tactical investigation which is taking place this week.”

“We do not wish to release specific details about the amount of explosives in question. However, there is just under a ton of prepared explosives, as well as other unprocessed fertiliser,” police attorney Pål-Fredrik Hjort Kraby told NRK.

The BBC reports Breivik’s lawyer, Geir Lippestad, has said his client maintains he has not committed any crime, suggesting other acts are being planned by “friends abroad that think the same way as him and that they will continue his work.”

According to Mr Lippestad, Breivik also remains true to his claims that what he did was still regards what he did as “necessary”.

“He knows he has done something dreadful and he knows that he is being looked upon as a demon. But he explains everything and says it was necessary because if I don’t do this Europe will fail and Europe will fall.”

Paul Ray has distanced himself from Breivik's actions.
