Film crew search abandoned

Police in Rogaland say they have called off the search for the bodies of film crew who went missing off the western coast of Norway.

A police spokesperson says, “A very thorough search has been made, both on land and at sea. It has been decided to end the search for good.”

Mats Bjarg, 25, from Oslo and 27-year-old Daniel Henriksbø from Kvinesdal, Vest Agder, were swept off rocks by a huge wave on Sunday at Stapnes, Egersund, as they were filming landscape scenes for a star-studded Norwegian picture.

There were treacherous weather conditions in the area at the time, with winds of up to gale force 10.

Divers were unable to go into the water, and the search turned from one of rescue to recovering dead bodies within the course of 24 hours.

A third person was also swept into the sea along with his film crew colleagues, but managed to clamber ashore and alert emergency services.

“We will consider resuming the search again if any new information is received in connection with the case,” states the spokesperson.

Yesterday’s operation was called off at 15:00 local time.
