Government announces Hardanger undersea cable committees. Petroleum and Energy Minister Terje Riis-Johanssen has appointed four separate bodies to consider the undersea Hardanger power cable. “The commissions will ensure a renewed, independent, and thorough review of the undersea cable alternative,” he says in a press release. Massive public and political protests led to a governmental U-turn on building power pylons across Hardangervidda between Simadal and Samnanger at the beginning of this month, after the go-ahead was given on 02 July.

The four committees will consider the technical, economic, and environmental impact, effects on the grid system, as well as the time-scale.

“A review hearing involving all those affected both locally and regionally, is scheduled for 10 February 2011,” says Riis-Johansen.
