Hoksrud and prostitute change story. Bård Hoksrud and the prostitute involved in TV2’s Latvian sex scandal story now claim there was no sex between them. Both say it was just a body massage. The Progress Party (FrP) politician says he only confessed to having sex with ‘Nicole’ because of a camera being pushed in his face. The prostitute admits the sex claim was only because she thought she would get the reporter as a customer. Mr Hoksrud was fined 25,000 kroner for paying for sex abroad in Riga, something that has been illegal for Norwegians since 2009. He has withdrawn from his honourary offices.

Criticism of TV2’s methods has been strong since the story broke last week. Progress’ Deputy Party leader Per Sandberg has accused the broadcaster of “being after us”. Party leader Siv Jensen attacks the Norwegian press for discrimination.

“My naivety fades each day. I note that Progress is treated extremely differently to other Parties in these types of cases.”

Although she admits highlighting these types of issues is important, Ms Jensen says to Dagsavisen that, “Nevertheless, I am constantly amazed by the fact that other politicians and Parties are shielded when more serious matters than the one we have now witnessed arise.”

Morten Sortodden, of the Norwegian prostitutes’ interest group PION, claims MPs from other Parties also buy sexual services.

“They pay for sex, from both men and women,” he tells ABC Nyheter, refusing to divulge any names.

Meanwhile, an unrepentant TV2 news editor, Jan Ove Årsæther, tells trade magazine Journalisten he does not wish to go into semantics about sexual techniques, He alleges, “This confirms the use of a hidden camera was necessary to bring out the truth. It shows the woman is not being sincere, and that Mr Hoksrud retracts his own statement if given the opportunity to do so.”

And as the debate rages on, Press Association General Secretary Per Edgar Kokkvold calls for “openness” and “honesty” in keeping with the industry’s Code of Ethics: “hidden cameras/microphones or false identity may only be used under special circumstances. The condition must be that such a method is the only possible way to uncover cases of essential importance to society.”

He also hopes other this matter will encourage other MPs to come forward in public if there are any who have purchased sex following the 2009 law.

“They should have enough spine and decency to do so, whether it has taken place here or abroad.”
