Hope fades for missing Danish boaters

Police and rescuers in Mandal municipality have now given up hope of finding the four missing Danes involved in Wednesday’s boating accident.

The four were part of a six-man group that was thrown into the water when their boat capsized near Skjernøy on Wednesday night.

Though the search for the missing men in the 20s was widened yesterday, there was still no trace of them by nightfall.

It’s believed none were wearing life jackets, and conditions are still reported to be difficult.

Search and rescue divers were called in to help look for the four early this morning, but police now believe all have drowned.

“There’s little hope of finding the missing alive. We’re therefore no longer looking for survivors, but are concentrating on finding the four, that have probably died,” Tor Damkås, head of Vest-Adger District Police’s rescue unit tells NTB.

Meanwhile, the two survivors have now been discharged from Sørlandet Hospital in Kristiansand.
