Hope for polar bears. “Rare success story” on Svalbard. Further to yesterday’s article about the bleak outlook for polar bears, The Sun has some good news for their readers. Ben Jackson writes that their population could be on the rise. Dr Tom Arnbom, a spokesman for the WWF and Marine mammal expert from Stockholm has been travelling to the islands for several years, and thinks that the ban on bear and seal hunting has helped.

Further to yesterday’s article about the bleak outlook for polar bears, The Sun has some good news for their readers. Ben Jackson writes that their population could be on the rise.

Dr Tom Arnbom, a spokesman for the WWF and Marine mammal expert from Stockholm has been travelling to the islands for several years, and thinks that the ban on bear and seal hunting has helped.

“…it is my opinion that the bear numbers in Svalbard are increasing. We are getting many more reports of sightings,” he tells the paper.
