The Foreigner Hydrocarbons, foreigners, football for ONS 2014. The biannual exhibition’s opening is less than a week away. Several important international speakers will be holding lectures at the event with its own quasi ‘World Cup’. ONS, established 40 years ago this year, is an event which gathers leading global oil and gas industry names. Its importance is reflected by the presence of such guests this year as HRH Queen Sonja of Norway, Prime Minister Erna Solberg, Minister of Petroleum and Energy Tord Lien, Education and Research Minister Torbjørn Røe Isaksen, and Statoil CEO and president Helge Lund.

The biannual exhibition’s opening is less than a week away. Several important international speakers will be holding lectures at the event with its own quasi ‘World Cup’.



ONS, established 40 years ago this year, is an event which gathers leading global oil and gas industry names.

Its importance is reflected by the presence of such guests this year as HRH Queen Sonja of Norway, Prime Minister Erna Solberg, Minister of Petroleum and Energy Tord Lien, Education and Research Minister Torbjørn Røe Isaksen, and Statoil CEO and president Helge Lund.  

In addition to Norwegian experts, many foreign ones will be speaking during the conference. 2014’s include Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who willdiscuss the issue of energy changeson Monday 25th August.

Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) CEO and president Khalid Al-Falih will also be speaking about the future oil industry’s challenges to changes on the Monday. Moreover, Sara Akbar, CEO of Kuwait Energy, will talk about Youth energy, the driving force for change in the Middle East later on during the day.

Tuesday 26th August sees lectures by people including BP North Sea president Trevor Garlick (The enhanced oil recovery opportunity is now) and Leading through changes given by Dr Homa Bahrami, senior lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley.

Executive IEA (International Energy Agency) Director Maria van der Hoeven will also be speaking. Her presentation will be followed by Contributing to sustainable development given by Salem Rashed Al Matrooshi – Manager, Exploration & Production at in the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).

Amongst foreigners scheduled to participate and/or speak on Wednesday 27th August are: Wintershall’s Martin Bachmann regarding natural gas, Shell’s Tim Bertels on CCS, and Michael O’Dwyer – Managing Director of global analysis company Morgan Stanley.

ONS is not purely about business, however, with organizers arranging a lot of entertainment. Events include Run for fun – an open race for both ONS’ participants and everyone eager to run in Stavanger (Wednesday 27th start at 17:30).

Another sporting element is a football match between Norway and the United Arab Emirates. Music group Ylvis, The Fox (What Does the Fox Say), will be some of the artists performing.

A fireworks display will take place at the harbor in Stavanger on the Wednesday, with an exhibitors’ farewell party rounding off ONS 2014 on Thursday 28th August.
