IKEA is asking its customers in Norway to immediately stop using and return their purchased LYDA jumbo cups following concerns of possible burn injuries.

The item, manufactured in Thailand, has been found not to be able to withstand hot liquids, cracking on contact with drinks such as coffee and tea.

Staff says they have received 20 reports of this occurrence, believed to be on a worldwide basis. Half of them involve damage or injury, according to the company.

The recall affects cups produced between August 2012 and April 2013. The company says no other makes of IKEA-branded cups are involved.

Norway is the latest country to be affected. Earlier today, IKEA in Canada issued a voluntary recall of 6,000 of these cups. There have been no reports of incidents there, however.

IKEA Singapore has also recalled this product, with reports coming from Ireland as well.

Norway customers requiring information can call 815 44 000. IKEA says it apologises for any inconvenience this recall move causes, and will refund the item’s cost in full.
