Leading Right-Wing politician criticises Utøya investigation. Former Norwegian Progress Party (FrP) Chairman Carl I. Hagen is mystified why relatives of those killed in Anders Behring Breivik’s Utøya shooting spree need to know such precise details. Politicians and lawyers are outraged. Censuring police for using too many resources on investigating the events, Mr Hagen declares, “Whilst I respect those who were affected should have an influence, I cannot grasp why some parents demand to know the order of events, exact place, and those sorts of things.” “He [Anders Behring Breivik] killed 69 people, whether he turned left or right and began shooting this young girl of that young boy. Why should 100 police officers be working on this for several months? There is a confession and everything has been revealed. It’s an open and shut case,” says the Far-Right politician, standing for Mayor of Oslo in next month’s local elections.

Censuring police for using too many resources on investigating the events, Mr Hagen declares, “Whilst I respect those who were affected should have an influence, I cannot grasp why some parents demand to know the order of events, exact place, and those sorts of things.”

“He [Anders Behring Breivik] killed 69 people, whether he turned left or right and began shooting this young girl of that young boy. Why should 100 police officers be working on this for several months? There is a confession and everything has been revealed. It’s an open and shut case,” says the Far-Right politician, standing for Mayor of Oslo in next month’s local elections.

Mr Hagen, also former Parliamentary Deputy Speaker, fears other cases will suffer or be shelved as a result. Breivik was back on Utøya on Saturday, spending eight hours in a bulletproof vest and police harness reconstructing his movements.

Not specifically commenting on this, Mr Hagen fears other cases will suffer or be shelved as a result of the thorough police investigation.

“I would have understood if there was a need to find evidence for a trial. I’m worried this will now tie up police resources to a major degree.”

“I’m almost lost for words,” says Mette Yvonne Larsen, one of the lawyers assisting surviving family members following the massacre, “he has absolutely no understanding for the relatives. He should keep his mouth shut.”

“Something has gone wrong with Mr Hagen. If it was his daughter who had been shot, wouldn’t he have wanted to know if she died quickly or suffered in her last moments,” she continues.

Other lawyers and politicians are shocked at his statements.

“It’s the most stupid thing he has ever said, assuming he has been quoted correctly”, Mona Høiness, another lawyer representing several families hit by Breivik’s acts of terror.”

Leader or the Socialist Left Party (SV) Kristin Halvorsen calls Mr Hagen’s remarks “cold-blooded”.

Mr Hagen has not responded to The Foreigner's request for a statement.
