The BBC reports that the numbers of commuters using the tube has decreased considerably. According to Transport for London (TfL), job cuts and the recession are to blame.

190,000 fewer journeys were made in August, with both central London and the capital’s financial district feeling the pinch most.

Such a high fall-off in monthly passenger numbers hasn’t occurred since the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, according to TfL.

No decision about fare increases has been made as yet, the Mayor of London is expected to set prices for 2010 later on this autumn.
