An ambulance helicopter on a mission to fly an injured motorcyclist to hospital was hit by a lorry last Friday in Eid, in the Sogn and Fjordane region. According to the Norwegian News Agency (NTB), two of its rotor-blades were damaged, rendering it flight-inoperative.

“I was standing by the helicopter and was preparing to receive the patient. I had taken out the stretcher and opened the door, when the lorry suddenly appeared” the pilot, Bernt Næss, told VG Nett (vg.no).

According to Sunnmørsposten the helicopter, worth approximately 27.5 million kroner, will now have to be dismantled and taken by road to be repaired.

“It’s the only helicopter we have in the region, so we need a replacement as soon as possible”, the pilot told vg.no.

Nobody was hurt in the incident, and the lightly-injured motorcyclist was taken to hospital in an ordinary ambulance.

The lorry was believed to have been travelling between 10 and 20 kph.
