All the assaults took place in different areas. A man tried to rape a woman in a toilet cubicle in a club in Sandefjord on Saturday evening.

Petter Aronsen, operations manager for Vestfold Police, said to NRK, “The suspect was gone when the police arrived and has not yet been arrested. He is approximately 20 years old and of foreign origin.”

Another woman was attacked on St. Hanshaugen in Oslo. Neighbours heard the woman scream and ran to help, possibly preventing the situation from escalating to rape.

The assault happened close to where the woman lives and took place in a lit street surrounded by apartment buildings.

Neighbour Wibecke Rønseth and her boyfriend heard the screams and called the police.

“It was an extremely unpleasant situation. I fear what might have happened if we had not intervened,” she told NRK.

Saying, “she did everything right, in a way. She walked in the middle of the street where there is most light and was talking on her phone.”

“We would not have reacted to what was about to happen had she not screamed out loud.”

Reports suggest that the men followed the woman as she was walking home before attacking her. Her attackers, described as dark-skinned, between 20 and 25-years-old, and approximately 1 metre 70 high (5 feet 6 inches), ran away just with her mobile.

A third woman was assaulted and raped in Vågsbygd in Kristiansand. This adds to the increasing number of reported assault rapes.

Police say they want to encourage women to come forward by highlighting the fact that many attackers leave DNA behind.

“This message is important to get out to victims”, said Hanne Kristin Rohde to Aftenposten following Friday’s meeting between Minister of Justice Knut Storberget, Oslo Police, police officials, National Crime investigators (Kripos) and the Director of Public Prosecutions (Riksadvokaten).

Authorities announced at the press conference afterwards they are now considering whether DNA should be taken from people arrested for minor crimes as it is felt some who commit these minor crimes may be willing to commit more serious crimes in the future.

Oslo police will also be given 10 extra investigators, and there will be more officers on the streets.

Whilst a fourth rape was reported as having taken place at a party in Trondheim on Friday night, police in Oslo have not received any reports of rape this weekend.
