Norway Crown Princess cancels birthday salute. HRH Crown Princess Mette-Marit does not want military cannons saluting her birthday today in the aftermath of the July 22 acts of terror. Breaking with tradition, HRH says, “The Crown Princess has asked that no salute is fired on the occasion of her birthday on 19 August, out of consideration to all those affected by the terror attacks against the government’s headquarters and on Utøya,” Marianne Hagen, Head of Communications at the Royal Palace, tells VG. Amongst other places where cannons will be silent are four of Norway’s five large cities Oslo, Trondheim, Bergen, and Stavanger, as well as Rena military camp near Anders Behring Breivik’s rented farm property in Hedmark County.
