According to arrangers, the event is designed to be "a generous, inclusive and unifying celebration of linguistic differences and linguistic diversity."

Every language spoken in Norway today is included under the celebration's umbrella.

It comes in the same year of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Norwegian philologist, lexicographer, writer, and poet Ivar Andreas Aasen (d. 23 September 1896).

Mr Aasen is said to be the father of minority but national written language 'nynorsk'. 'Nynorsk' as a spoken form is built on dialects.

Norway's other official language is 'Bokmål', stemming from Danish.
