Norway launches ‘experienced’ channel

Published on Thursday, 27th October, 2011 at 10:18 under the news category, by John Price   .

Mature English-speakers in Norway can watch their favourite TV drama on a new channel from next year.

According to the broadcaster, other Scandinavian countries Denmark and Sweden have seen a surge in popularity by screening such programmes.

Such success has attracted the attention of TVNorge’s Managing Director Harald Strømme, who says they will be launching the new “VOX” channel from January.

“The interest for quality entertainment designed for those who no longer define themselves as youths is growing amongst viewers and advertisers. While NRK is fighting an increase in elderly people, the commercial channels manage largely to attract younger viewers. We now believe that the experienced viewers should get an even wider commercial offer,” he says.

On average, people between the ages of 30 and 59 years watch 174 minutes of television-a-day, while the younger generation views TV 130 minutes daily.

Mr Strømme explains, “VOX will primarily address the viewers in the target group 30+. There will be a choice of new and old classics, British series, crime, talk shows, comedy and films."

“VOX will be a broad channel for the advanced television viewer who feels grown-up, whether they are 32 or 58.”

Amongst programmes to be screened are the BBC’s ‘The Hour”, CBS Studios International’s “The Borgias’, and David Letterman’s talk show.
