The city, complete with trains, was built by 42-year-old Øyvind Bjerkholt. He is selling the masterpiece to clear space for a room for his now five-year-old son.

“It takes up a lot of room!” he told regional paper Stavanger Aftenblad.

“We simply need the room as a boy’s room where he can have his own toys and things in now that junior has become bigger,” he continued.

Currently living in southern Norway’s Arendal, Mr. Bjerkholt was more than just a keen Lego fan as a child.

The strong interest became a sort of obsession that lasted through his teens and up until a period “when it was getting a bit embarrassing,” the paper reported him as saying.

His resolve to put aside his Lego-building passion disappeared when he became a father about five years ago. The hobby revived, it eventually took off completely.

“We had the same gift wish lists for Christmas, the little boy and I both wanted Lego,” Mr. Bjerkholt explained.

He stated he was spending his free time building up his township when not working shifts as a taxi driver,

“An unbelievable amount of time browsing through the Internet has been spent looking for the right color bricks or blocks, or any missing piece for the plastic town.”

Mr Bjerkholt added he has made purchases from collectors worldwide.

“It’s part of the fun finding and waiting for the right piece to move the Lego-town project one step further,” he declared.

According him, there have been no serious inquiries from people wanting to buy the collection yet.

He thinks the construction (external link, in Norwegian) could appeal to collectors, groups of Lego enthusiasts, or even stores to use the structure as a display, however.

“I’m only selling it as one, and the NOK 100,000 price tag is non-negotiable because this is worth so much more,” he concluded.

“This is an absolutely exceptional collection,” said FINN.no PR division’s Henrik Faller.

“It's got 20,000 hits in the short time that the ad has been up for,” he added earlier today, Wednesday.
