According to VG, whilst he denies this took place, supposedly in 2008, his indictment also includes secretly filming young boys in the shower.

Mr Birkedal was arrested in March this year after one of his alleged victims tipped off police. The accused resigned from all his political offices. He later talked of his sexual preferences to Plot magazine.

Arvid Sjødin confirms his client has been informed of the charges against him but had not yet received the full details.

Lawyer for the victims, Hege Salomon, is relieved that Birkedal has now been indicted.

“I have spoken to one of my clients and he was satisfied charges were raised. I assume my other clients will also be pleased when the case comes to court, so they will be able to testify and put the matter behind them,” she told NRK.

Arvid Sjødin and Progress’ Deputy Leader, Per Arne Olsen, said they were unsurprised by the charges. The trial is expected to be held in the first half of next year.
