Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit in Swedish fashion trouble. A Swedish style journalist has the scissors out for HRH Mette-Marit’s clothes trends. He claims the “Fashion Princess” title does not suit her. “I do not think her style is distinctive enough for her to be called a fashion icon. She has nice clothes and dresses, but I believe a fashion icon is someone who leads fashion in a new direction… [She] does not surprise and challenge,” Dagbladet reports Svenska Dagbladet’s Daniel Björk as saying. The Crown Princess supports Norwegian designers and experts have likened her clothes to those of Grace Kelly and Jackie Kennedy.

“I do not understand peoples’ fixation that the Royals should look like a mixture of [these two],” says Björk.

Ingeborg Heldal, Chief Editor of Cosmopolitan, supports HRH for her individuality, fashion wise, but Björk believes Grace Kelly was more successful, as she dressed for her time.

“Why did the Royal fashion style get stuck in the ‘60s?” he asks.

Björk also criticises Sweden’s Princess Madeleine who will designing jeans for the Genetic Denim label, the proceeds of which will go to the World Childhood Foundation.

“I cannot subscribe to calling a person who has made the Canada Goose jacket, one of the brat culture’s worst inventions, a fashion icon.

“My basic criticism of Madeleine as a fashion princess also applies to Mette-Marit.”
