Honesty pays?

The Right Wing is in a fighting mood. Many MPs are upset over Parliament’s strict rules on documenting expenses, arguing they have better things to do than waste time on bureaucratic routines.

“When the Norwegian people have given us their trust to represent them in Parliament, I believe we must also be allowed to practice a system based to a greater degree on the trust of Parliament as an institution,” the Conservative’s (H) Øyvind Halleraker writes in his declaration Klassekampen has obtained.

MPs have to document their telephone, Internet, and travel expenses, amongst other things.

A parody

His campaign is gaining increasing support. Almost 20 percent of MPs – mainly Conservative and from the Progress Party (FrP) have joined Halleraker’s protest so far.

The present system is so tortuous, that the Right Wing claims it’s almost satiric. Halleraker goes on to say he’d like a more efficient workday.

“We’ve been elected to engage in politics, not waste time on increasingly difficult and complicated procedures.”
