The Transport Workers Union (Transportarbeiderforbundet/TWU) is threatening to call out its members in Veolia and Østerhus on strike from tomorrow, hitting both commuters and schoolchildren in Sør Rogaland and Ryfylke.

Although final talks between employers and the TWU are to begin at 12:00 today, union leader Roger Hansen believes they’ll be tough.

Karianne Haar Nedrebø, information director at Kolumbus, says the company hopes the strike won’t happen, but are advising passengers to prepare for the worst.

Two-thirds of their drivers belong to Veolia, and there are fears of chaos should non-union members be allowed to work as normal.

“There’ll be a huge mess,” Inge Vidar Lone in Rogaland TWU tells NRK.

The strike is scheduled to begin at midnight tonight if no agreement is reached.
