Oslo City Council candidate, Aina Stenersen, has announced the decision in the hope of creating a new channel that focuses on right-wing political views.  She believes the media in Norway is undemocratic.

Ms Stenersen and FrP’s political advisor Brage Baklien advocate a Norwegian version of Fox News be distributed on Norwegian cable TV.

“Alternative viewpoints must come forward in a time where freedom of speech is under pressure. The uniform Norwegian press is a big challenge for democracy, especially because a growing proportion of the articles and news stories are about journalists’ opinions instead of objective news,” they argue in a letter.

“7 of 10 journalists vote for the Red-Green Coalition. FrP would not have got a single MP if journalists were the only people with the right to vote.”

Citing Fox News’ controversial reputation, Press Association General Secretary Per Edgar Kokkvold is slightly puzzled by FrP’s allegations.

“I wish to protest strongly against that Norway needs its version of Fox News. The channel has first and foremost become known for its inability to distinguish between strong opinions in its commentary section and news reports. The channel takes a clear standpoint, even when it is not commenting. Any medium has demands to be independent and honest,” he said to Aftenposten.
