Motorists in Norway will have to prepare themselves for more worries. Changes in legislation could give ordinary officials powers to tow away vehicles causing an obstruction.

Until now, only police have been able to order the removal of vehicles blocking the road, but the government has now proposed the same right be granted to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA/Statens vegvesen).

“The legal amendment will make it easier for road authorities to ensure free traffic flow, especially when roads are icy or covered in snow,” says Minister of Transport and Communications Magnhild Meltveit Kleppa.

The legislation will take effect as soon as it has been approved by King Harald.
