Solskjær clear favourite for Aston Villa manager. UK bookies are predicting a strong chance current Molde FK manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær will become manager of Aston Villa. A Ladbrokes spokesperson tells The Foreigner, “We’ve got him as odds on favourite 1-4 and are obviously reacting to recent speculation by the UK media. He’s only got a few games left at Molde.” Speculation as to Solskjær’s future has been very much at the fore since reports broke of that Aston Villa FC’s US owner Randy Lerner flew to Kristiansund for discussions with Molde chairman Øystein Neerland, Thursday.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson tells The Foreigner, “We’ve got him as odds on favourite 1-4 and are obviously reacting to recent speculation by the UK media. He’s only got a few games left at Molde.”

Speculation as to Solskjær’s future has been very much at the fore since reports broke of that Aston Villa FC’s US owner Randy Lerner flew to Kristiansund for discussions with Molde chairman Øystein Neerland, Thursday.

Solskjær subsequently flew to Birmingham, prompting angry reactions from multi-year Molde sponsor Kjell Inge Røkke, who withdrew his NOK 90 million kroner (about USD 15.1million/GBP 9.6 million) support.

The Norwegian footballer has denied running for the Aston Villa post. However, Denmark’s former Aston Villa captain, Martin Laursen, has now ruled out a return to Villa Park, saying this summer would be “too soon”, doing nothing to allay rumours about Solskjær.

According to The Birmingham Mail, Randy Lerner is also to resume face-to-face interviews with his shortlist of candidates within 24 hours upon his return from the US.

Ladbrokes’ odds for seven other possible Aston Villa managers are:
Paul Lambert 5-1
Roberto Martinez 10-1
Kevin McDonald 12-1
Mick McCarthy 14-1
Ian Holloway 16-1
Gus Poyet 20-1
Brendon Rodgers 20-1

Neither Molde FK chairman Øystein Neerland, nor Atle Kigen, Aker’s head of communications, were available for comment when contacted by The Foreigner.
