Norwegian music producers Stargate have won a Grammy award for the “Best Dance Recording” with the song Only Girl (in the world) performed by Rihanna.

Produced in collaboration with Kuk Harrell and Sandy Vee, Only Girl, was the first single released from Rihanna’s album, Loud.

“This is unbelievable. It cannot be described. The evening has been fantastic,” Mikkel Storleer Eriksen told NRK.

Only Girl (in the world) was released on the 10th of September 2010 and has sold over two million copies in just four months.

“The song came out when Rihanna came to us and said ‘on the next album I’ll have fun, I want to dance’,” said colleague Tor Erik Hermansen.

Stargate was also nominated for Katy Perry’s album, “Teenage Dream”, for the category “Album of The Year” won by the Canadian band Arcade Fire for the album “The Suburbs.”

The Norwegian producers have also won other Grammys. In 2009 they were received the award for the R&B song “Miss Independent” from the album “Year of the Gentlemen”, performed by Ne-Yo.

The song, written by Patrick Monaha in collaboration with Amund Bjørklund and Espen Lind, “Hey, Soul Sister”, won the Grammy for the Best Pop Performance By A Duo or a group with Vocals.

This year’s 53rd edition of the awards from The National Academy of Recording Arts and Science in the USA was opened with a tribute to soul singer Aretha Franklin.

Among the artists who performed on stage was Mick Jagger who sang “Everybody Needs Someone to Love”, a tribute to R&B singer Solomon Burke.
