Unions and employers in the state sector reached a pay deal, Saturday, ending some of Norway's current industrial action.

After an agreement on pay was reached on Saturday morning much of the strike action seen over the past week may be coming to an end.

YS Stat, LO Stat and Akademikerne agreed to accept a pay deal of around 4.1 percent.

“This is a good result for YS Stat members. It is significantly better than the offer the government gave us a week ago, and that pushed us into a big strike”, Pål N. Arnessen told NRK.

Tone Rønoldtangen, chief negotiator for LO Stat told NRK that the settlement had not yet been finalised.

“This has been a tough game, but now I am glad that our members can go back to work knowing that they are not worth less than employees in other sectors”, he said.

However UNIO did not accept the deal during the night’s negotiations and have announced plans for a third strike.

“UNIO showed willingness and went into voluntary mediation with a goal in mind, to contribute to a solution. The government has shown very little willingness to move, even though we had a big strike going”, Arne Johannessen said.

Despite this mediator Kari Gjesteby was optimistic after the discussions on Friday night.

“We hope this means we are approaching a solution. Most issues have been up for discussion. Some of them have been clarified, it is the economy we are working on now”, she told NRK.
