Annual salary negotiations could take a nasty turn this spring, with the Norwegian Food and Allied Workers Union (NNN) warning of possible strike action.

Jan-Egil Pedersen, Head of the NNN, tells VG the whole country could face food shortages if their female employees don’t receive a pay rise of at least 10 percent.

The strike is directed against the fat cats, according to Pedersen. He says the union’s members are fed up of working for low pay, whilst the Reitan family – who own Rema1000 and Narvesen – NorgesGruppen, and food producers such as Orkla and Marine Harvest skim the cream.

A strike could mean supermarkets run out of ordinary foods such as bread, meat, vegetables, eggs, and juice from the end of April.
