“Today’s apprehension is the result of a thorough investigation. We have questioned between 60 and 70witnesses. The person who is now accused has already been interrogated about the case twice before. Our goal has been to further connect him to the matter or rule him out,” Police Inspector Grete Metlid tells NRK.

The man, who has not been named, is already in custody after his arrest for possession and storing hashish, cocaine and a revolver, and has been convicted of several offences in the past.

Yesterday’s indictment is believed to be a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the shooting of a 35-year old games developer on 18 June. Several witnesses have also come forward in connection with the murder.

“We are very happy progress is being made, and have trusted police in their work from the beginning,” Linda Gundersen, a member of Mr Opsahl’s family, tells VG.

Chief inspector Metlid praises her team for their efforts, but says there is nonetheless a long way to go.

“We believe there are still people it might be appropriate to talk to in connection with this case. As matters stand, one person is indicted for murder, and there is no reason to charge others for now,” NRK reports.

Morten Engsbakk, the accused Thai’s lawyer says, “He has been suspected in this casefor a while, but denieshaving been at Bislett, or having anythingto do with the murder.”
