Three people were injured, one of them seriously, last night when a car smashed into Oslo’s Café con bar outside restaurant.

An eyewitness who wished to remain anonymous tells NRK, “I was on the other side of the street when I heard the screeching of wheels and brakes, seeing the car swerve several times, before it ploughed into the café after one of the wheels fell off.”

Police say three guests were hurt in the crash, a 27-year-old woman taken to hospital with serious injuries, as well as a 32-year-old man and another woman, aged 25, who were sent to the emergency outpatients clinic.

“Quite a few people were lying on the ground screaming, tables and chairs were piled on top of each other. People were in shock whilst these were being removed,” says the eyewitness, who was not sure whether the crash was deliberate.

The driver and two passengers, a Norwegian, Kurd and Iranian according to Dagbladet, then got out of the car, a metallic-grey Volkswagen Passat, and tried to run away from the scene, but restrained by passersby.

ABC Nyheter reports Café con bar’s General Manager, Ayden Secici, said “He [the driver] attempted to escape but I managed to hold the man back until police arrived,” tells ABC Nyheter.

All three were arrested on the spot and will be questioned by police today.

“They have been indicted for trying to leave the scene of an accident,” Kjell Pedersen of Oslo police tells Aftenposten.
