Sunday 14 February will be a special day for mothers, ovens, and lovers in Norway, when Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, and Shrovetide occur at the same time.

Bjørn Auestad, associate professor of statistics at the University of Stavanger, tells NRK that it normally happens only three or four times every hundred years.

“It’s no big thing. The last time it happened was in 1999 (Ed: when Bertrand Picard and Brian Jones became the first to circumnavigate the globe in a hot air balloon, and Charles M. Schulz – creator of “Peanuts” announced his retirement),” he says.

For those of you who would like to go on a diet, the next time will be 2021, and it’s 2083 after that; plenty of time to find another girlfriend/boyfriend/carton of long-life milk.

Enjoy the cream buns, whatever you’re doing.
