Troll A gas production back to normal. Consumers of natural gas in the UK can breathe a sigh of relief after Statoil’s Troll A platform has resumed normal production of natural gas. Yesterday’s leak halted production on the Troll A, Kvitebjørn, and Visund platforms, also forcing Statoil to reduce output from its sister rigs, Troll B and Troll C. The effects were immediately felt on the UK gas market. Prices soared to 44.5 pence per therm, after the shutdown stopped delivery from Kollsnes, Rigzone reported.

“There was a minor gas leak in association with a valve in the riser area. Production on Troll A resumed yesterday afternoon,” Gisle Johansen, Statoil’s press spokesman tells The Foreigner.

The halt is the second in six months, and comes after another gas leak triggered a temporary closure of the oil field in January.
