Trond Birkedal considering plea bargain with police. Disgraced former Progress Party (FrP) politician Trond Birkedal may have filmed up to 13 boys in his shower and had sex with another underage youth, according to Stavanger Aftenblad. “I can confirm that Mr Birkedal has been asked in an interview about what he can admit to regarding the matter being treated as a plea. And I think this is how the matter will end,” said lawyer Arvid Sjødin, representing him. Police investigators have identified thirteen potential victims following Mr Birkedal’s indictment for sexual contact with young boys.

In a recent interview with the police, Birkedal was routinely asked to say what charges he acknowledges guilt for.

He was also asked whether he would accept a so-called plea-bargain if the Public Prosecutor only reproved those cases he had admitted to. Both Mr Birkedal and his lawyer confirmed that this was the case.

Police swooped on the former politician in March after receiving a tip-off from a man who claimed that he had been filmed showering at the politician’s house.

Further elements of the police investigation include how Mr Birkedal reportedly posed as a young girl in Internet chatrooms. He is said to have sent indecent pictures of his female alter ego to young boys and asked for similar material in return. Many of the boys he contacted were members of the Progress Party Youth (FpU).

NRK reported that public support for the Progress Party Youth plummeted by 5% at the time of his arrest.

“I am writing a proposal to the Public Prosecutor based onwhat I believe backs the evidence up, regardless of what the Defence believes,” said Karsten Monsen, police lawyer for the case, whose investigation and recommendations to the Public Prosecutor will be used to prepare the final indictment against Mr Birkedal.

Mr Birkedal’s lawyer, Arvid Sjødin declared, “I will not go into details of what he has acknowledged. There will always be nuances. However, if some of what he denies is included in the case, it will not be a matter of a plea.”
