A total of three people were killed and 19 injured in two separate bus accidents in Norway’s capital at the weekend.

Sunday evening’s accident in Trondheimsveien around 8.10pm involved a route 31 bus. The vehicle had first collided with an oncoming car whilst travelling in the direction of Carl Berners plass northeast of the centre.

It was after passengers had disembarked that it reportedly started rolling forward after the driver had got in again to move it.

The bus gathered speed, swerved across the road, killing one person in their 30s in a group of people waiting on the pavement on the opposite side.

Three others including the bus driver were taken to the emergency outpatient’s clinic with minor injuries. The bus stopped after ploughing into a row of parked cars.

The weekend’s first fatal accident occurred early Sunday morning at Rommen. The bus driver in his 50s and another died subsequently to the vehicle coming off the road in wintry conditions. The road was reportedly wet but not particularly icy at the time, says NRK.

A female passenger in her 40s was seriously injured. Her condition was diagnosed as serious at the time. There are no further reports about this for now.

A total of four people, two with serious injuries, were taken to Ullevål Hospital. 12 more with lesser injuries were taken to the emergency outpatient’s clinic.

The bus, which was badly damaged, was travelling towards Lillestrøm in Akershus County to the east of Oslo.

Investigators are to examine both buses involved in the two accidents.
