Norway police also indict the man for breaches of the Penal Code and Road Traffic Act.

One male passenger, a Ukrainian national, died and 16 others were injured after the vehicle left the road and landed on its roof, Saturday.

The bus driver was arrested on Monday evening. In effect, his indictment regards negligent homicide.

His arrest was “based on witness observations and other technical and tactical investigations,” the statement issued by western Norway’s Sunnmøre Police District says.

Sjur Engelsen Lange, lawyer for the accused, told publication Sunnmørsposten that his client denies his guilt regarding the indictment.

“He has been questioned and given his statement in relation to the matter,” said Mr Lange, who also told NRK that his client is “very dejected about the situation and is in despair.”

41 people, including a tour guide, were aboard the bus when it collided with a car driven by a Sunnmøre Police employee at approximately 4 pm local time.

It did not take place during the person’s working hours.

Both vehicles were travelling on County Road 63 in Grønning i Norddal Municipality’s Valldal when the incident occurred.

The 16 injured people were sent to hospital. None of the victims is critically injured and all are in a stable condition.

Most have been discharged, but three will probably have to stay in hospital for a few more days.

The indicted bus driver’s remand hearing will take place on Wednesday this week.
