Afghanistan claims another Norwegian soldier. Stabilisation troops lose a man. A roadside bomb has killed a 22 year-old, and injured two other Norwegian soldiers about four kilometres south-east of Ghowrmach in Northern Afghanistan. The three were part of a group of 40 others on their way to meet troops from the Afghan army to conduct joint patrols, when their BAE CV9030 armoured tank that was being piloted by the soldier drove over the bomb’s pressure plate concealed in the ground, the military write in a press release.

Although all were evacuated quickly by helicopter to hospital in Meymaneh, the young soldier’s life couldn’t be saved, bringing the number of Norwegian casualties to five.

No-one has yet claimed responsibility, and the soldier’s next-of-kin have been informed.
