Several questions were asked, including whether he was given the authority to defend the Norwegian people or if it had been his own decision.

It was during this questioning that Breivik told the court that he had learnt from Norwegian and European militants, as well as Marxism. He also claimed he had got inspiration from al-Qaeda.

The first psychiatric report was also discussed, it was here that Breivik spoke about the letter he had written to the Norwegian media where he claims to have pointed out 200 lies.

The prosecution also asked whether Europe was at war, Breivik replied that Europe was not yet at war but working to prevent Islamisation.

Breivik was questioned about the reaction to he had when his film was shown in court yesterday. He said that he had begun to cry as he feels that the country and its ethnic group is dying.

The accused believes many more people will now understand the reasons for his actions now that he has been able to address the court.

After a short break, the prosecution wanted to focus on Brevik’s past including the time he had dropped out of school. Their questions could last into tomorrow.

In response to the question about his education, Breivik stated that he had undertaken 15,000 hours of self-study by 2010. He also said that the topics of religion and religious history were of most interest to him.

When asked about his own religious views Breivik stated that he leant towards Catholicism but was a member of the Norway National Church.

The prosecution spent much time discussing Breivik’s business ventures before moving onto his political history and his involvement in the youth wing of the Progress Party (FpU).

After another short break, suggested by Breivik himself who pointed out it was already 15:15, he said wanted to go through a list of 20 encounters he had had with Islam.

Nevertheless, prosecutors said this could be done another time. The court was adjourned at 16:01 until tomorrow.
